The Greene County softball team picked up two wins last week, improving their season record to 8-4 overall.

A share of the Rams success can be credited to senior pitcher Emma Hoyle. Hoyle is leading the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and is in the top 10 in Class 3A in three pitching stats. She’s #4 in WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) at .72; #6 in strikeouts at 98; and #7 in ERA at .83.

Senior center fielder Olivia Shannon is leading the HOIAC in some base running stats. She’s #5 in Class 3A in stolen bases at 20 and also stolen base attempts at 19.

Senior catcher Emma Stream leads the conference in put-outs at 102. That puts her #14 in Class 3A.

On Monday, June 5, the Rams hosted Nevada, winning 14-0. Greene County scored three runs in the first inning, with eight in the second and three in the third to close out the game. Bats were strong, with Emma Stream hitting a double, and homeruns coming from Emma Hoyle and Becca Anderson. Overall, the Rams pounded out nine hits. The Rams had nine putouts, with seven from Stream as catcher. Hoyle was on the mound, throwing 34 pitches, striking out seven batters and allowing no hits or walks as her teammates backed her with error free defense.

Wednesday brought an upset by the Rams, beating previously undefeated Saydel 5-1. Both teams scored one run in the first inning, with Greene County scoring three in the fifth and one in the seventh. Olivia Shannon hit two singles, with Hoyle hitting a single and a double. Stream added a double to Rams’ hit count, with Alexa Peters, Payton Kokenge, Paige Teeples and Chanlyn Cunningham each hitting singles. Hoyle took pitching duty, with three hits and two walks allowed, striking out seven. The Rams committed just one error.

As of last Friday, the Rams were 6-1 in the HOAIC, with Saydel in first place at 7-1.

The Rams are in the middle of a busy week, with a home game on Monday against South Hamilton, Tuesday at home against Roland-Story, Wednesday at PCM, Thursday in Harlan against St. Edmond and on Saturday at Denison for a tournament.

Next week’s schedule includes: June 19 at home vs West Marshall; June 20 at home vs Manson-Northwest Webster; June 21 at Perry; June 22 at home vs Kuemper Catholic; June 24 at the Boone Invitational Tournament.
